Our Commitment to Peace
At SAF-UK, we believe that lasting peace begins within communities. Our peacebuilding initiatives are designed to restore trust, foster dialogue, and strengthen social cohesion among groups that have been divided by conflict, displacement, and competition over scarce resources.
We work across Somalia’s conflict-affected regions — including Hobyo and the wider Mudug Region — to create safe spaces where communities can come together, address grievances, and build a shared vision for the future.
Our Approach
Peace for us is not just the absence of conflict — it is the presence of justice, cooperation, and opportunity. SAF-UK promotes peace through an integrated, community-driven approach that combines:
Dialogue and Mediation: Supporting local peace committees, elders, and women’s groups to resolve conflicts through inclusive dialogue.
Youth Empowerment: Engaging young people in peace campaigns, cross-border sports tournaments, and skills programs that promote unity and mutual respect.
Climate and Resource Management: Addressing the root causes of conflict such as drought, deforestation, and competition over water by promoting sustainable natural resource use.
Governance and Social Cohesion: Strengthening the capacity of local institutions to provide fair services, enhance accountability, and rebuild public trust.
Our Impact
Supported cross-border youth football tournaments fostering trust and cooperation among communities in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
