Education
SAF provide
- Basic literacy, numeracy & national curriculum homework classes for students who need help with homework assignments, or to raise their educational to a level where they can access and benefit from further education, training and employment initiative.
- Consolidating and reinforcing skills and understanding particularly in literacy and numeracy.
- Encouraging youngsters to develop the confidence to study on their own, and prepare them for the requirements of further education.
SAF also working with local schools, institutions and other community groups to help them understand the Somalis in their midst and open doors to employment, education and integration opportunities.
Helping make sure the special needs of the community are known and understood by the local council, and that the support available is appropriate, accessible and productive. Ongoing services include:
- Advocating for the development of programs and changes in policies directly related to refugee community's needs.
- Literacy Program - SAF volunteers offer a literacy program for all who need it.
- Homework Support - Tutoring classes are provided in a range of subjects for students who need extra support with their schoolwork. The tutors are experienced local-teachers who understand special needs for refugees Students. The students also receive one-on one and group career motivation and higher education guidance.
- Volunteer Training - SAF also provides services delivery training for future employment and volunteers.
