Our Commitment
At SAF-UK, we believe that education is the foundation of peace, progress, and resilience.
In Somalia, countless children — especially in conflict- and drought-affected areas — are denied the right to learn due to insecurity, poverty, and limited access to schools and trained teachers.
Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of gender, location, or background, has access to safe, quality, and inclusive education. Through community-driven interventions, we work to restore learning opportunities and empower the next generation with the knowledge and skills they need to build a better future.
Our Approach
SAF-UK adopts a holistic approach to education that addresses both the learning environment and the socio-economic barriers that keep children out of school.
1. Improving Access to Education
We work with communities and local authorities to expand access to learning through:
- Construction and rehabilitation of classrooms and learning spaces in crisis-affected districts such as Hobyo and Galkacayo.
- Provision of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) to schools and community education centers.
- Support for temporary learning spaces in displacement camps and drought-hit areas to keep education ongoing during emergencies.
2. Teacher Training and Capacity Building
Quality education begins with capable teachers. SAF-UK invests in:
- Teacher training programs focusing on child-centered and gender-responsive teaching methods.
- Strengthening teacher management and motivation, including stipends and teaching supplies in remote areas.
- Building the capacity of School Management Committees (SMCs) to ensure accountability and community participation in education delivery.
3. Promoting Inclusive and Safe Learning
We are committed to creating safe, inclusive, and protective learning environments for all children by:
- Supporting girls’ education and reducing barriers such as early marriage, insecurity, and household labor.
- Integrating child protection and psychosocial support into school programs.
- Advocating for education in emergencies as a right, not a privilege.
4. Linking Education to Livelihooods and Peace
Education is a bridge to stability and opportunity. SAF-UK integrates life skills, peace education, and climate awareness into school programs to help youth become agents of positive change.
We promote:
- Youth empowerment programs combining vocational skills and entrepreneurship training.
- Peace education to promote tolerance and community cohesion.
- Environmental education that nurtures stewardship of local ecosystems.
OUR IMPACT
- Supported the construction and rehabilitation of multiple classrooms and water facilities in conflict-affected communities.
- Distributed learning materials and facilitated access to education for hundreds of children displaced by droughts and floods.
